HI, I'M NATALIE
Being on social media, especially Instagram gives you the POWER to reach a wider audience using Geotag and Hashtags!
Who would’ve thought that these small details on your posts have a huge impact when it comes to boosting your social media presence?!
For your local salon business, you can easily reach nearby customers using these features.
Today I will be talking about how Geotag and hashtag can help you reach your salon’s ideal audience on Instagram.
GEOTAG or geotagging is an action of adding geographical identification metadata (latitude and longitude coordinates) to any media such as a photograph or video. This will allow users to store or tag content on their Instagram post to those coordinates a.k.a. LOCATION on the map.
Meanwhile, a HASHTAG is a word or phrase that is preceded by the hash symbol, #, that CATEGORISES your content or post.
Now that we have defined geotag and hashtag let’s get down to the ways you can use these to your salon business’ advantage!
Geolocation on Instagram is determined by the physical location of your mobile device!
Your photo or video will then be pinned to the location you geotagged. Remember though that this will only work if you turn on Instagram location services.
Create your Salon’s location
Put your salon’s location on social media maps by creating a new location!
You can do this through Facebook’s “create the location” setting.
Start by creating a new post and selecting “Check-In” and enter your salon’s name. Once done you can then search your salon on Instagram.
Remember to only create one name for your salon to build content around it and be consistent!
Add Location Sticker in Stories
If you post on Instagram stories where you are in the salon or are featuring your salon, use the location sticker as much as possible.
Doing this will also include your stories in Instagram’s explore page!
So when users explore your salon’s location and view stories in that selected area they will see the stories you geotagged using the location sticker.
Browse locations in Instagram explore page
One thing to get your salon’s Instagram noticed by users is to go on a liking spree!
At the explore page of Instagram search through locations near your salon and like posts by users you think are your salon’s ideal clients!
You can even leave comments. Just don’t be creepy!
Using the right hashtags for your salon will surely help you show up in your ideal audience’s feed and explore page!
Using hashtags is social media’s way of categorising content or posts. So it is important to know which category you want your salon to be in!
Only use hashtags that are relevant to your salon business. You can also create a brand hashtag that your clients can use whenever they post content related to your salon.
Once you have created a location for your salon, you can see who use the geotag of your salon’s location on Instagram explore page!
It’s so convenient! You can go through content posted by users and make sure that you engage with those posts.
That way it will encourage them to post more content about your salon and even become loyal clients!
Once you have established your salon geotag and a personalised hashtag perhaps, you should encourage your clients and followers to use them!
Whenever clients visit your salon inform them of your social media and ask to tag you whenever they post a picture related to your salon.
The more your salon is tagged, the more you gain exposure to a whole new network. A free-running ad!
Reaching your ideal audience on Instagram can’t happen overnight. It is a gradual process that includes discipline and consistency. Trust me, I have already handled a lot of clients’ accounts and made progress through this principle.
For salon businesses, Instagram is a huge part of social media marketing strategy. It’s only apt to learn how to make your salon’s Instagram stand out!
Geotag and hashtags are more than what they seem. As long as you use these tools correctly, you will be able to reach a new network of the ideal audience that can turn to clients!
