HI, I'M NATALIE
If you’ve had your salon business for a while now, chances are, you already know all the effective salon marketing strategies like the back of your hand. But let’s face it:
NOTHING HAS PREPARED YOU FOR THIS.
We all hope we can find a handbook that will tell us what to do and NOT to do. But we all learn as we go along as we navigate through this UNFAMILIAR territory.
Here are a couple of simple but effective tips in marketing your salon during the Covid-19 Pandemic:
It may not be your intention but read your message over and over to make sure the tone is right.
Remember, this is a global health CRISIS. Lives have been lost, and many lives are being risked to help address it.
Make sure your message does not sound like you are leveraging off the suffering or fears of people. It will BACKFIRE. A faux pas like this will have a wide audience, with your market being mostly at home, glued to their phones. They will call you out. This will definitely hurt your brand more than increase your sales—not worth it.
For example, avoid increasing prices on products, especially those essential ones during these times like hand sanitisers etc.
Offering home products as alternatives to the usual in-salon services are great and would be much appreciated, but make sure they are reasonably priced and are marketed in a sensitive manner. Avoid copies that reference this crisis as an ‘OPPORTUNITY’ or having a ‘bright side’, as this will be extremely offensive to those who are actually suffering during this crisis.
Now this is the opposite side of the spectrum.
Many brands may become confused on how to approach this crisis, especially if their brand voice is generally lighthearted or funny. There’s no need for a SUDDEN PERSONALITY CHANGE. You will CONFUSE your clients!
Also, many people go to their beloved brands to find some comfort in times like these, so there’s no need to have a personality bypass and become a grim & overly serious brand all of a sudden. You just need to be sensitive with your message.
Make sure not to make light of other people’s suffering during these times, but you can still maintain the same brand voice as before.
Remember, you can still be warm, caring and sensitive without changing your personality.
